The Mohammed Bin Zayed (MBZ) Elevated Toll Road experienced a substantial surge in traffic, with the number of vehicles increasing by 75.5 percent just one day before the long holiday weekend for the Ascension of Jesus Christ. PT Jasamarga Jalanlayang Cikampek (JJC) reported this significant rise in activity. According to Desti Anggraeni, General Manager of Operations and Maintenance for PT JJC, the volume of vehicles departing Jakarta via the MBZ Elevated Toll Road reached an impressive 38,239, based on daily traffic data.
“The vehicle volume during the day before this long weekend holiday saw a significant increase of 75.5 percent compared to normal daily traffic, which typically stands at 21,787 vehicles,” stated Anggraeni, as quoted by Antara on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Anggraeni further elaborated that the surge in vehicle volume occurred gradually throughout the day. In the morning, traffic increased by 22.05 percent, escalating significantly as the day progressed. By midday, the volume had risen even higher, reaching an 81.84 percent increase, before experiencing a dramatic jump of up to 213.59 percent during the evening hours.
Conversely, traffic heading towards Jakarta saw 26,642 vehicles, which was relatively stable with a 20.61 percent increase compared to the normal traffic volume of 22,090 vehicles. This indicates that while outbound travel was surging, inbound traffic remained manageable.
Overall, the MBZ Toll Road recorded a total of 64,881 vehicles traveling in both directions. This figure distinctly underscores the heightened mobility of the public during the Ascension of Jesus Christ holiday period, particularly for those departing the capital.
In light of this increased traffic, PT JJC continues to strongly urge all road users on the MBZ Elevated Toll Road to prioritize safety above all else. This includes ensuring that both drivers and their vehicles are in optimal condition before embarking on their journeys.
Furthermore, motorists are advised to maintain sufficient fuel levels and ensure their vehicle’s power supply (e.g., battery charge) is adequate. They should also be prepared for potential weather changes, particularly rain, which can significantly impact visibility and road surface conditions. Adhering to these precautions will help ensure a safe and comfortable journey to their destinations.
