Prabowo Jokes About Reshuffling Zulkifli Hasan; Minister Responds

President Prabowo Subianto playfully quipped about replacing the Coordinating Minister for Food, Zulkifli Hasan. The jest stemmed from Zulkifli’s misidentification of the village name during their official visit to Kebumen, Central Java, on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

Prabowo was present in Kebumen to participate in a large-scale shrimp harvest, where he also delivered remarks to local residents and officials. During his speech, as Prabowo prepared to mention the name of the harvest location, Zulkifli whispered to the Gerindra Party Chairman that the village was called Karangduwur.

However, the community promptly corrected him, shouting that the correct village name was Tegalretno. Consequently, Prabowo invited one of the residents to the podium to state the village’s proper name over the loudspeaker. “Tegalretno Village, Petahanan District,” the man declared.

The President then humorously suggested dismissing Zulhas—as Zulkifli Hasan is affectionately known—from his post due to the incorrect information. “Oh dear, the Minister made a mistake just now. Wrong name. Do you think he needs a reshuffle?” Prabowo asked the crowd, as reported by the Presidential Secretariat.

According to Prabowo, the residents responded with a resounding “No.” “No? Oh, it’s a good thing the people are fond of you (Zulkifli Hasan),” remarked the former defense minister.

Prabowo’s presence at the shrimp harvest in Kebumen, Central Java, was alongside several ministers, including Zulkifli Hasan. Dressed in a brown safari shirt and a dark blue hat, Prabowo even joined in pulling a fishing net cast by a local shrimp farmer.

He was assisted by several individuals in hauling the net. After successfully harvesting a net brimming with vaname shrimp, also known as white leg shrimp, Prabowo proceeded to deliver his address from a tent erected near the site.

Prabowo highlighted that the Regional-Based Shrimp Cultivation Pond in Kebumen is a project that has been underway for three years. This significant aquaculture facility was inaugurated by former President Joko Widodo and former Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo on March 9, 2023.

“Today, I am here to witness the grand shrimp harvest from this project, which has been operational for three years, and its current yield has reached the highest, world-class levels,” Prabowo stated, as broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat.

Prabowo noted that one hectare of pond at the location could yield up to one ton of shrimp, a production level he considered an extraordinary achievement.

He estimated that a single hectare of pond could generate tens of millions of rupiah per harvest. “This means with excellent prices, a minimum of Rp 70,000 per kilo, translates to Rp 70 million per ton,” Prabowo explained.
